Synonym of coryphaeus (Ancient Greece, drama, historical) The conductor or leader of the chorus of a drama. (by extension) The chief or leader of an interest or party. (ballet) A ballet dancer ranking above a member of the corps de ballet and below a soloist. The African-American dancer, choreographer, and director Alvin Ailey was born on this day in 1931. His work fused ballet, modern dance, jazz, and theatre with black vernacular.
