(South Asia) A clerk or secretary. (South Asia) A language teacher, especially one teaching Hindustani or Persian. Mohammed Abdul Karim, an Indian attendant of Queen Victoria, died this month 111 years ago in 1909. The Queen gave him the title of “Munshi” and had him teach her Urdu.
